Our central work in Meating the Need is to provide healthy, local meat at affordable prices to everyone in Pine County. To accomplish this, community members invest locally with small dollar amounts, pigs are raised, and at the end donors go home with meat while also having contributed to something truly great: regular sales of USDA-inspected meats for folks in need - with prices reduced and EBT accepted.
Sound too good to be true? It's not. Here's how it works:
You invest! Anywhere from $5 to $50.
Your money goes towards the purchase of piglets and feed.
Pigs are raised on the pastures of Frechette Farms, enjoying sun, fresh air, and the occasional back scratch from their farmer. You are even welcome to come see your investment in action.
When it’s time, pigs are processed at a Pine County processor.
You receive an amount of meat equal to your investment, plus an extra cut for those investing $25 or more.
The remainder of the meat is made available to the entire community in giveaway programs and at scheduled sales with EBT accepted.
